Assignment 3.1

Kevin Omari Appah Group B1
I am writing an analysis report when I will be focusing on three moving image types (Fictional, Factual and Promotional).

Fictional(Fish Tank)
The moving image I have chosen is Fish Tank. This film is about a 15 year old called Mia who is trying to survive in a empty apartment that doesn't really have a lot of things inside of it as she isn't Rich so her life must f been harder than other people. She has been thrown out of school and has pursed her interest in life which is dancing.

In terms of the key features there are many. The film is shown from a front view rather than a backwards view as it looks like a front view most of the time inside of the film. As in the film in charts the rise and fall of hope and despair of a handful of many characters. Inside the film, Mia doesn't want to follow the path of all those who are around her as she is not content to want to stay where she is as he isn't living very good conditions and doesn't want bad things in life to happen to her. In terms of the message in Fish Tank is that it presents harsh message. As such the actual film is for a niche audience and the film is very marginalised. Fish tank is presented as something that feels more real than what the actual film is.

The technical elements in Fish tank is the setting, props, costumes, visual effects, Mise-en-scene, camerawork, sound and editing. For setting it is in East London which is a unconventional location as they live far away from each other as they live in an estate. In terms of props there is a butterfly. The butterfly is Mia's mothers room symbolises that the place is like she is trapped as she is very innocent inside of this film. Another prop is a horse that features inside the film. The horse symbolises as it represents herself as they are very similar to each to her as how they live and how there life is.

The camerawork is close up shots, high angles, over the shoulder shot, the editing is very fast paced and the lighting throughout the film is dark and gloomy, However there is some red and black lighting that indicates danger because of the colours used as they are both negative. The music is very up beat when she is dancing which shows she enjoys dancing. Which shows why she always happy when she dances

Factual (Shaklius Townsend Documentary)
I have chosen this for my factual because you are able to talk about many things for example the purpose. The purpose for this is that it's to inform us not to join or be associated with any gangs as it is very dangerous as you can end up getting stabbed or killed. In terms of the key features used
in this documentary is the narrative.Throughout the whole documentary there are explanations of what is going on and what happened for him to get stabbed so aggressively. The overall message for this documentary is not to be involved with any gangs whatsoever as it's to fatal to be apart of. The theme for this documentary is gangs and violence. When it comes to the positioning and the structure the starting is basically talking about what happened for him to get stabbed as he broke the girlfriends heart and she wasn't over it so it shows what the girlfriend got her friends to do to him as revenge for the way he treated her. There are many different use of stars for example John Boyega and Harry Rafferty both of these stars have very important roles inside of the documentary.

For the technical element example sound inside of the documentary is used very effectively. At the start of the documentary the music connotes that it's going to be very upsetting as the music sounds very sad. After this, the music starts to change to become louder and louder, this then makes the music in the documentary more effective as it fits well with the documentary and what is actually going on inside of the documentary. Then the music starts to change again by gaining a quicker tempo (this is when the ex girlfriend leads Shaklius Townsend to his death, around this scene after the murder has happened whilst the music is playing there is a narrative that then explains what is going on. Also, the music is more effective when the mom starts talking about how he trusted the ex girlfriend but she ended up to be someone he just couldn't trust as I'm pretty sure he broke her heart and she is still angry and upset over it.

Another technical element was the Mise-En-Scene for example the setting as where everything happened it was set in an exotic location which is South Norwood as what has happened has now brought knife crime back towards that area, the props used is like the knife they used to stab Shaklius and the type of clothing they use shows that they could of had it hard in life as some of the people the ex girlfriend hangs around with looks like they are fully gangsters who carry knifes around as they say it is for protection. For the camerawork there are many different shots for example high angle and a close shot as this brings tension towards the whole documentary. The editing the documentary is very fast paced as it cuts from one scene to another very quickly.

Promotional (Creed 2)
I have chosen this for my promotional as its a very powerful film trailer with lots of mysteries. For example there are many different use of stars for example Tessa Thompson and Michael B Jordan but Michael B Jordan (Adonis Creed is the main character in this film). Tessa Thompson has starred been in many more movies for example Thor Ragnarok and Dear White People. Whereas, Michael B Jordan has starred In Black Panther, That Awkward Moment and Fantastic four. These movies are all very successful and Michael B Jordan plays a very important role inside of these films. In terms of the key features from watching the trailer I can tell there is a lot of key features. The conventions inside of this film is that I can associate many things when watching this trailer for example that the film is about boxing and the person (Victor Drago) that Creed is going to fight must have some hidden content towards it as he really wants to fight Drago. The representation of this film is that it represents that if you want to fight someone then you have to have backup like your family is inside of the rink with you but they are only in the crowd but you feel like that your family is inside of the rink with you. A message that is inside this film is probably the family always has your back.

For the technical elements in terms of the setting the film is filmed around South Philadelphia which is a exotic location but lots of people know about the location. The props inside of creed 2 is the boxing gloves and gym equipment. The costume represents that they might be sponsored  because of all of the different kind of designers. The visual effects is usually when the boxing starts to happen and even some after the boxing has ended. The camerawork is that the camera moves and there is also a lot of shots. This is shown at the start of the trailer when Creed is running against the car there is a dolly shot as it is following Creed when he is running against the car. There is also a close up shot of when Creed is looking at Drago. Also, there is a mid shot when Creed is inside of the pool practising his punching as he is going to fight the persons son that killed his Dad. The lighting showed is very low-key and high-key throughout the whole movie trailer.

Additionally in the trailer, the music is very up beat and goes really well with the actual movie trailer, this then shows and makes the film look very dramatic as the use of music is very common to of been used in a movie trailer such as this one, the music as well changes be beat inside of the trailer as the rhythm the becomes longer instead of shorter.
